Louisville’s Main Line Specialists

When It Is the Sewer Line, Not the Drain

Every fixture in your house drains into one main sewer line. So when two or more drains slow down together, the tub gurgles when a toilet flushes, or water rises at the basement floor drain, the blockage is in that shared line — not in any single fixture. Snaking a sink will not touch it.

Golden Plumbing clears main sewer lines across Louisville with a cable machine for one-time stoppages and a hydro jetter for lines packed with grease or roots. Then we run a camera down the line, show you the footage, and tell you plainly whether the pipe is sound or whether clearing it again would only buy time.

If the camera finds a break, a belly or a collapsed section, the honest answer is repair, and that lives on its own page: sewer line repair. You will never be sold a repair you cannot see for yourself.

What We Do

Sewer Cleaning Services We Offer in Louisville, KY

From a one-time main line clearing to a full camera diagnosis — every job priced before we start, never after.

Main Sewer Line Clearing

A steel cable fed through your cleanout breaks through the blockage or pulls it back. It is the usual answer for a one-time stoppage in a line that is otherwise sound. $300–$400 through an existing cleanout, and most are running again within the hour.

  • Cable machine through the cleanout
  • Full-length run, not a spot poke
  • Flow test at every fixture after
  • Price quoted before we start
  • Same-day, Monday–Friday

Hydro Jetting

High-pressure water scours the pipe wall back to bare. This is for lines that will not stay clear: grease coating an entire run, or roots that come back no matter how often the line is cabled.

  • Pressure matched to the pipe material
  • Clears grease, scale and root hair
  • Camera check first when the line allows
  • Restores the full pipe diameter
  • Quoted after we see the line

Sewer Camera Inspection

A camera shows what is actually in the pipe: roots at a joint, a crack, a low spot holding water, a separated joint, and what the pipe is made of. That is what separates a cleaning problem from a repair problem. $300–$400.

  • HD camera with locator
  • You watch the footage with us
  • Depth and location marked on the lawn
  • Recording kept for your records
  • Required before any repair quote

Tree Root Removal

Roots find the joints of older clay tile laterals, common in Germantown, the Highlands and Old Louisville. We cut them out with a root cutter or jetter, then camera the joints to see whether the pipe still holds.

  • Root-cutting cable heads
  • Hydro jetting for heavy intrusion
  • Camera to check the entry points
  • Honest read on how long it will hold
  • Lining or repair options if it will not

Cleanout Installation

No cleanout means every clearing starts by pulling a toilet or cutting into a pipe. Installing a proper exterior cleanout makes this job, and every future one, faster and cheaper.

  • Two-way exterior cleanout
  • Located where the line is easiest to reach
  • Cuts the cost of every future service
  • Permitted where Louisville requires it
  • Quoted with the clearing

Sewer Backup Clearing

When sewage is already on the floor, stop running water — every flush and load of laundry feeds it — and call. We clear the main, get the drains moving, and tell you what caused it before you clean up.

  • Priority same-day during business hours
  • Main line cleared first
  • Cause found with the camera
  • Guidance on cleanup and insurance
  • Repair quote only if the pipe failed

How We Decide

Cleaning or Repair? How We Tell Them Apart

Cleaning removes what is blocking the pipe. Repair fixes the pipe itself. From inside the house they look identical — so here is how we find out which one you need.

1

Run water and watch

One slow fixture means a branch line. Two or more backing up together means the main. That two-minute test decides what equipment comes off the truck.

2

Clear the line

A cable for a one-time stoppage, a hydro jetter for grease or roots. A fully stopped line sometimes has to be cabled open before a camera can pass.

3

Camera the pipe

Now we can see: roots at a joint, a crack, a belly, a collapsed section — or a sound pipe that just needed clearing.

4

Decide together

A sound pipe: you are done. A failing pipe: we show you the footage and price the repair. Clearing again would only buy months.

Clean or Repair?

When Cleaning Is Enough — and When It Is Not

We will always give you an honest recommendation. Here is the guide we use ourselves.

Cleaning Is the Answer When...

  • It is the first backup, or the first in years
  • The camera shows a sound pipe with a blockage
  • Grease, wipes or paper caused the stoppage
  • Roots are light and the joints still hold
  • The line runs clear and stays clear after a flow test
  • You have a usable cleanout to work through

Repair Is the Answer When...

  • Backups return within weeks or months of a clearing
  • The camera shows a crack, a break or a separated joint
  • A belly holds standing water in the pipe
  • Roots have opened the joints of a clay tile lateral
  • The line stops in the same spot every time
  • The yard is wet along the path of the line

Sewer Cleaning Questions — Answered

What Sewer Line Cleaning Actually Involves

First, is it your main line or just one fixture?

Every drain in the house feeds one main sewer line. That shared layout is what makes the next two minutes worth spending: run water at a few fixtures and watch which ones misbehave.

  • One fixture is slow and everything else drains fine. The blockage is sitting in that branch, not in your sewer line.
  • Two or more fixtures back up together. The only pipe they share is the main line, so that is where the blockage is.
  • Flushing the toilet makes the tub gurgle, or water appears at the basement floor drain. Waste cannot move downstream, so it rises to the lowest opening it can find.
  • The washing machine sets it off. A washer dumps water fast, and a partly blocked main cannot carry it.

A sewer backup that reaches a tub or floor drain means the main is fully blocked. Stop running water: every flush and load of laundry feeds it. We walk through the full comparison in clogged toilet or main sewer line.

Two methods, and they are not interchangeable

  • Cabling, also called snaking. A steel cable is fed down the line through a cleanout to break through the blockage or pull it back. It is the usual answer for a one-time stoppage in a line that is otherwise sound.
  • Hydro jetting. High-pressure water scours the pipe wall back to bare. This is for lines that will not stay clear: grease coating an entire run, or roots that come back no matter how often the line is cabled.

Access changes the job more than the blockage does. With a usable cleanout, the cable goes straight in. Without one, an access point has to be created first. Snaking vs. hydro jetting covers when each is worth paying for.

What a camera can and cannot tell you

A camera shows what is actually in the pipe: roots at a joint, a crack, a low spot holding standing water, a separated joint, and what the pipe is made of. Two limits worth knowing. A camera cannot see past a total blockage, so a fully stopped line sometimes has to be cabled open first. And for a one-time clog you may not need one at all. Before a large sewer repair, it is the cheapest way to find out what you are dealing with — read what a sewer camera inspection costs.

Signs the clog is really a failing line

  • Backups return within weeks or months of a clearing.
  • Drains back up only during heavy rain — MSD combined sewers pushing water backward, which is not a clog.
  • Wet ground or standing water in the yard along the path of the line.
  • An older clay tile lateral, still common in Germantown, the Highlands and Old Louisville, where tree roots find the joints.

When the camera finds damage, clearing the line again only buys time. That is the point where the conversation turns to repair, and what sewer line repair costs is the next thing to read. If the backup damaged the basement, what homeowner insurance covers is worth reading before you call the adjuster.
